Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026
1. About these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of BeatTime — the website beattime.live, the public time API, the BeatTime mobile application, and the optional Google Calendar integration (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. What BeatTime is
BeatTime expresses time as .beat — 1000 beats per day (1 beat = 86.4 seconds), anchored to UTC, with no timezones. It is a free, public service offered as a convenience. The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without any service-level guarantee or warranty of accuracy, uptime or fitness for a particular purpose.
3. No account required; optional Google sign-in
The website, the API, the clock, the converter and most app features work without any account, login or tracking. Google sign-in is optional and only used if you choose to connect Google Calendar. In that case:
- we request the minimum necessary scope to read your events and add events you create or tag;
- your authorization stays on your device — we do not store your calendar contents on our servers, and we do not sell, share or use your Google data for advertising;
- our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements;
- you can revoke access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
4. Proof-of-existence timestamping
The proof-of-existence feature records the SHA-256 hash of a document in a public, append-only log together with its @beat/UTC time. Your file never leaves your device — only its hash is transmitted. This attests that data existed at a point in time and to its integrity; it does not attest authorship, ownership or the truth of the content, and it is not a qualified or legally certified electronic timestamp. Entries are public and permanent (append-only); do not submit a hash you wish to keep private. The Service is provided on a best-effort basis without warranty.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for unlawful purposes or to infringe the rights of others;
- attempt to disrupt, overload, attack or reverse the Service or its infrastructure;
- place unreasonable automated load on the API beyond published rate limits.
6. Intellectual property & your content
The BeatTime name, brand and site content belong to the operator. Any content you create (e.g. photos you stamp, events you create) remains yours; the app processes it on your device and only transmits what is required for the feature you use (e.g. a hash, or an event you choose to save to your calendar).
7. Disclaimer & limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, and the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from reliance on time values, timestamps, or the availability of the Service. Mandatory statutory liability (e.g. for intent or gross negligence) remains unaffected.
8. Changes
We may modify or discontinue the Service, and update these Terms, at any time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
9. Governing law & operator
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. The operator is:
